For several years in a row, Croatian citizens, not older than 45, can apply for subsidized loans through the Agency for Real Estate Mediation (APN). Applications for this year have been completed and the number of entries has exceeded all expectations. As many as 4260 requests have been submitted. Apart from the age limit, the conditions were that the persons who declared ownership did not have an apartment or house that is in such usable condition that there are basic hygienic and technical conditions for living, or that own only one apartment or house that is in such usability state that there are basic hygienic and technical conditions for living, but they are selling it to buy a bigger place to live.
With the help of a subsidized loan, besides buying a house or an apartment, a house can be built, but the price must not exceed 1500 euros per square meter. The price may be higher, but in that case its difference will not be subsidized. The subsidy lasts for 5 years, but for each child born it can be extended for another two years. It ranges from 30% to 51%, and of course the most developed areas / cities like Zagreb fall under the smallest percentage. Also, what matters is that the loan repayment period should not be less than 15 years.
What is new compared to last year is that it is possible to extend subsidies for an additional year for each child for families who already have children. Which means that the subsidy for a family with one child will last for six, not five years.
Although it was customary for papers to be submitted by the end of the year, in September, the Agency announced that they would be able to submit their applications also by March 2020.
